Jifeng Liu is Assistant Professor of the sociology of Southeast Asia at Xiamen University, and was previously Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity (Germany) where he is currently acting as Research Partner. He received his PhD in sociology from Leiden University. During his doctoral project, he was a visiting scholar at the Department of East Asian Studies of the University of Cambridge and the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies of the University of Copenhagen. As a sociologist, his research revolves around the interplay of ethnicity, religion and politics with a geographic focus on China and Southeast Asia.
